Champagne flowed as Southampton’s art world celebrated the opening of the city’s medieval vaults as exhibition venues. Five vaults, some of which date back to Norman times, will house modern art and sculpture, which the public can view free for the next three months as part of a two year project.

Artists on show include Southampton’s Sarah Misselbrook, Michelle Aburrow and David McDiarmid.
Ben Scott, from organiser a space, said: ‘We wanted to open platforms for artists such as ourselves so Southampton can hold on to the highly skilled graduates we are currently haemorrhaging.’
