Cambridge, UK Painting and producing artwork has been a preoccupation for me. I graduated from Loughborough University with a first class honours in 2004 and before coming to Cyprus painted at a studio cooperative in Cambridge. In my landscape paintings and drawings I want to produce art from the beauty and subtle forms found in nature. In my paintings I use a technique of building up layers of oil paint, wet on wet, observed from nature. It is my hope that this rather obsessive, meticulous technique exaggerates the sublime and radiance of nature and reality that finds its own life in the physicality of paint on a canvas. Working from Cyprus’s quirky perspectives and sun drenched colours, the forms often battle and contrast with each other. Nature in my paintings becomes powerful and threatening but also out of it shines a beauty that I see in reality. This too is echoed in my line drawings with their awkward, shaky lines in which I try to create an exaggerated restlessness in untamed nature that has the power to both destroy and generate life. Previously I have been making work compiling of subject matter full of angst and loathing of the West’s money obsessed celebrity culture, but now I feel I don’t need this angst to express what is important to me.
