Wexford, Ireland Travel has become a familiar experience of daily life and has had a formative influence on my work. I am interested in the idea of nomadic living, that as human beings we are instinctively meant to be on the move. My work deals with travel as a form of escapism and our tendency to seek distraction or relief from reality. I draw a lot of my inspiration from nature. I like to imitate or represent it as superficially as possible - commenting on how the holiday experience can be an exaggeration of the paradise ideal. What is prescribed to us is often not the genuine article, a kind of placebo, that satisfies our quirks and desires of beguiling escapism and consumption. My installations try to reconcile our enjoyment for Kitsch art, often showing good craftsmanship of cheap and basic materials and unedited videos and sounds, creating an enjoyable ambience in which one can lose oneself; but only momentarily as our quest for idealistic Utopia will always pose an unrealistic venture.
