While in Cyprus, I have continued to follow my interest in natural history through my work. I attempt to relate something of the atmosphere and context of a place with the detail of often unnoticed fragile elements present. During the year my work has made a move towards more conventional landscape painting. I have tried to place emphasis on the compositional use of space and how it may create a sense of atmosphere, and peace felt through the work. This is a factor I use also with my drawings, contrasting large empty areas with almost obsessive but quiet detail.
Living in Cyprus has, through the environment, light and vibrant surroundings, influenced my use of colour dramatically. It has also given me the confidence and freedom to work for myself without worries of outside pressures.
I will continue to work as a practicing artist when I return to the UK, using influences from different places and environments I have encountered through past and future international travelling experience.
