Female artists’ work on display

Publication: Petersfield Post
Date: Wednesday, March 17, 2004

Work by six female artists will be on display at Petersfield’s newest art gallery until Saturday.

The artists have all been inspired by different aspects of the human body, and have used a diverse range of materials, including feathers. The exhibition, entitled The Body, has been organised by Ethna Mathews, artist in residence at the One Tree Gallery in Lavant Street.
‘The work ranges from traditional figurative life drawings to digital installations,’ she said.

Among the eye-catching exhibits is a torso fashioned from thousands of feathers by Sarah Misselbrook.
As well as using unusual materials, she is also used to working in unusual surroundings.

‘Last year I spent some time working as artist in residence at a Saab garage in Southampton,’ she said.
Other artists with work on show are Louise Banks, Natalie Dowse, Sue Freeborough, Perdita Sinclair and Carol Smith.

The exhibition runs each day until Saturday, from 10am to 4pm.
