a space for modern art

Publication: Hampshire Society magazine
Written by: Ali Kefford
Date: September, 2004

Ali Kefford visits an art exhibition with a difference – in the vaults beneath some of Southampton’s most historical sites.

Three sculptures by Southampton’s Sarah Misselbrook now sit on the sandy flooring below what must be one of the finest 12th Century vaults in the country.

‘Because the nature of my work is clinical and minimal it’s striking to have something in contrast to that rather than the backdrop of a gallery,’ said Sarah.
‘ The space doesn’t override the work – or vice versa.’
